Privacy in plain English

  • Media opened in the editor, converter, metadata inspector and calculators stays in your browser unless you explicitly use the video-sharing tool.
  • VLC.ONL does not sell personal data and does not use advertising trackers.
  • Self-hosted Matomo measures page and link use without setting analytics cookies.

Account information

Google sign-in provides the verified Google account identifier, email address, display name and profile image needed to create and secure your VLC.ONL session. VLC.ONL never receives your Google password. Account information is used for access, abuse prevention and the signed-in dashboard.

Tool history

For signed-in users, VLC.ONL records the tool, an allowlisted workflow action and its time so recent activity can appear in the dashboard and aggregate use can appear in the restricted admin panel. It does not store the media filename, media contents, subtitle query, extracted metadata or finished sharing link in that history.

Browser-local media tools

Files remain on the current device

The browser video editor, local video converter, metadata inspector and calculators process their inputs on the current device. Editor drafts and retained source files use the browser's private site storage on that device. Clearing site data can remove those drafts. The video tools directory states which workflow applies before a file is selected.

Video sharing

When you deliberately use Upload Video, the browser sends the selected file directly to ShareIt.ONL after approval. VLC.ONL provides the interface but does not receive the video bytes. ShareIt.ONL applies its own storage, expiry and privacy terms to that upload.

Self-hosted Matomo analytics

VLC.ONL uses a Matomo installation operated on infrastructure controlled by the site owner to count page views, followed links and broad tool-completion events. The browser integration disables Matomo analytics cookies, honors the browser's Do Not Track preference and never sends media filenames, video contents, subtitle searches or editor-project data as analytics events. Normal web requests can still contain technical information such as an IP address, browser type, referring page and requested URL.

Essential session cookie

Signed-in sessions require an HTTP-only, same-site cookie for account access and request protection. This cookie is operational, not advertising or cross-site tracking.

Questions and requests

Use the VLC.ONL contact page to ask a privacy question or request correction or deletion of account information. Please do not include passwords, private videos or other sensitive files in a message.
